The Department of Resources and Environmental Sciences of Southwest Normal University was formed by the merger of the former National Women's Teachers College and Sichuan Education College 1950, and later by the merger of some teachers and students of Sichuan University, Kunming Normal University and Guinormal University. Famous experts such as Sheng, Zhao Tingjian, Chen Pingzhang, Yang Zonggan, Yang and Mu Guichun have taught here for a long time. Since the reform and opening up, the college has paid more attention to discipline construction and team building. A group of masters and doctors came to work in the department, and a group of young and middle-aged backbone teachers grew rapidly. In particular, the arrival of Professor Yuan Daoxian, a famous karst geologist, academician of China Academy of Sciences and doctoral supervisor, has enabled the college to have a respected international first-class academic leader and pushed the discipline construction and development to a new historical period.

The School of Resources and Environmental Sciences of Southwest Normal University adheres to the socialist orientation and emphasizes the all-round development of students. It has trained more than 3,000 professionals in geography, resources and environment, including more than 200 graduate students.

The college enrolls 8 doctoral students, 80 master students and 330 full-time undergraduates every year. At present, the one-time average employment rate of undergraduate graduates is 88.7%.

Second, the construction of geological teachers

At present, the college has in-service professors 1 1 person, namely Professor Yuan Daoxian (karst environment), Professor Kuang (geomorphology and environmental information system), Professor Wang Jianli (physical geography and Quaternary environment), Professor Xie (applied geomorphology), Professor Diao Chengtai (urban geomorphology), Professor Xu Gang (disaster geomorphology and environment) and Professor. At present, there are 24 associate professors, lecturers 12, and more than 20 teaching assistants and other auxiliary management personnel. Among the teachers, 1 1 has a doctorate, and 95% has a master's degree or above; At present, there are 1 000 students, including 650 undergraduates, 200 correspondence students and 200 graduate students. It is one of the largest departments of geography, resources and environment in universities in southwest China. The current dean is Professor Wang Jianli.

Three. Discipline construction and scientific research

Huan Zi University attaches importance to scientific research and its scientific research activities are active. Since 1950s, this discipline has carried out scientific research on the natural environment and its development and management in Southwest China. This discipline is the only geographical discipline in southwest China that has the right to award doctoral degrees. It has a high academic level and strong research strength, a reasonable echelon structure within the discipline, a generally high academic level, strong teaching and research strength and fruitful results. In international scientific research, the discipline has long-term cooperative relations with South Korea, Austria, the United States, Russia and other countries, and has undertaken the IGCP project of UNESCO for three consecutive times. In terms of domestic scientific research, the discipline has become a representative research base for the formation, development and protection of natural environment in southwest China by undertaking a large number of topics such as karst environment and its treatment, mountain disaster prevention and control, resources and environmental management.

Since 1982, this subject has enrolled more than 200 graduate students. Academician Yuan Daoxian, the leader of this discipline, began to undertake the training of doctoral students from 199 1, and has trained 5 doctoral students and 9 people so far. At present, most graduate students in this discipline work in scientific research, management, universities and other departments in China. Some of them have become cross-century talents in China, and some have become leaders of local administrative departments, which have played an important role in China's western development and four modernizations.

Since 2000, the construction of this discipline has made certain achievements. On the basis of the investment of 2 million yuan, we will continue to invest 1 10,000 yuan every year for the construction and development of this discipline.

In the past five years, the scientific research achievements of this discipline have been fruitful, with 534 papers published, 425 papers published in academic journals at home and abroad, 5 papers included by SCI, EI and ISTP, 3 monographs 1, national third prize1and 9 provincial and ministerial awards.

This subject has its own characteristics, which are described as follows.

1. Karst environmentology

In the past twenty years, in the process of solving various engineering geology, hydrogeology, ecological environment and regional development problems in karst areas, the research on karst environment theory has been carried out around many major domestic and foreign issues, and the following research characteristics have initially formed, and some achievements have reached the international leading position.

1) karst dynamic system and its ecological effect. The operating mechanism, classification and carbon cycle of karst dynamic system in southwest China are studied, and the response mechanism and tolerance of ecological environment in karst mountainous areas to human activities are expounded. Establish a geographic information system for karst rocky desertification areas in southwest China; Through the comparative study of rocky desertification areas, benign ecological areas and transitional areas, the driving factors of rocky desertification are explored; The grading evaluation system and expert system of rocky desertification are established, and the evolution trend of ecological environment in karst area is expounded, which provides scientific basis for governance.

2) Water cycle process and sustainable utilization of water resources in karst area. This paper expounds the main process and evolution characteristics of water cycle in different types of karst systems, and reveals the influence of human activities, especially different land use patterns, on the water cycle process and its ecological consequences. This paper discusses the impact and response of land use and land cover on the environment in karst mountainous areas under different hydrogeological conditions.

At present, karst dynamic system has been combined with global change, and global carbonate rocks have been properly evaluated through the influence of karst on atmospheric CO2 concentration. This achievement has played a positive role in perfecting the concept of human geoscience. Especially since 1990s, the academic leader in this research field has been the chairman of UNESCO /IGCP project for three times, which makes China's research on karst environmentalism always in the leading position in the world.

Karst area accounts for 15% of the world land area, and its population exceeds 10 billion. The karst area in southwest China is more than 500,000 square kilometers, which is the largest contiguous distribution area, the most complex karst landform development and the most prominent karst ecological problems among the fragile zones of karst ecological environment in the world, and has always been paid attention by the international community. It is time to implement the strategy of developing the western region. Because of its special ecological environment, a large area of karst rocky mountain area in southwest China must be deeply studied. It can be said that the development and reconstruction of karst environmental ecosystem is an important part of western development. Therefore, in the further study of karst environmentology, this research direction will certainly play its due role in solving karst environmental problems and implementing the strategy of developing the western region, and cultivate the required qualified talents. At the same time, it will also make an indispensable contribution to perfecting the scientific system of this discipline and promoting the renewal of human scientific concepts of the earth environment.

2. Geomorphology and Quaternary Geology

Since the end of 1970s, this major has carried out research on geomorphology, geomorphology classification and mapping, geomorphology development and evolution, soil and water conservation in southwest China, and concentrated a large number of scientific researchers to systematically study mountain disasters around Sichuan Basin, especially in the Three Gorges reservoir area, and achieved fruitful results in the fields of geological structure change, geomorphology evolution disaster mechanism, disaster prevention and control, and soil erosion prevention and control. It has formed three stable research directions: Quaternary environmental change, disaster landform and East Asian monsoon evolution, and soil and water conservation, and has achieved a lot of results. 1998 Up to now, * * * has presided over 5 fund projects of various types, and 3 papers have been included in SCI.

1) Quaternary environmental changes. Since 1996, he has been mainly engaged in the study of geomorphology and environmental evolution in the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River and the northeastern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. He presided over the research on the project of "Geomorphology Evolution and Environmental Change in the Three Gorges Basin of the Yangtze River" of the Ministry of Education, participated in the research on the formation and evolution, environmental change and ecosystem evolution of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau during the Eighth Five-Year Plan, participated in the second phase of the Ninth Five-Year Plan project "Research on Environmental Change and Regional Sustainable Development of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau" and published more than 20 papers on major fund projects of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

2) Disaster landforms and East Asian monsoon evolution. The types and causes of mountain disasters in Chongqing are basically found out, which provides a scientific basis for the construction of the Three Gorges Project. Since the end of 1970s, China 1 ∶ 100000 Landform Map (Chengdu Sheet) and Sichuan 1 ∶ 10000000 Landform Map and their descriptions have been developed successively. Presided over the National Natural Science Foundation 1 project. In recent ten years, combined with the implementation of major research projects on the formation process of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in China, based on the formation and evolution of southwest monsoon, this major has carried out systematic research on debris flow accumulation strata, moraine strata, climate strata and geomorphology strata in southwest China and Quaternary chronology (including ESR dating, red soil development age determination and other technologies), and obtained relatively complete sedimentology, biology, physics and chemistry research results on the environmental evolution process in southwest China. On this basis, some new understandings about the landform development process, environmental evolution law, debris flow development history and disaster process of southwest mountain disaster system have been formed, and many research results have been obtained.

3. Soil and water conservation research

Mainly engaged in the study of soil erosion mechanism and its prevention and control countermeasures in the Loess Plateau. He presided over or participated in 4 research projects and published more than 20 papers. Important progress has been made in the study of soil erosion modulus under different vegetation cover conditions and different precipitation conditions. At present, the focus of research is the prevention and control of soil erosion in the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River.

Because southwest China is the main area of southwest monsoon activity in China, and there are three Gorges reservoir areas, which are connected with the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the further development of this research direction will certainly make necessary contributions to perfecting the scientific view of natural geography in China; At the same time, it can also train qualified talents with high theoretical basis for disaster prevention and environmental management in southwest mountainous areas.

Study on soil and water conservation engineering. At present, it is undertaking the projects of "Study on Ecological Restoration of Soil and Water Conservation in Wuxi County" and "Study on Ecological Restoration of Soil and Water Conservation in Bishan County". In addition, we have long-term cooperation with Professor Wilger of Utrecht University in the Netherlands and undertaken many Dutch fund projects. In the past three years, * * * spent 1.023 million yuan on scientific research, with an average of 34 1.000 yuan per year.

4. Economic geography

Economic geography is the core component of human geography. Guided by Marx's theory of regional division of labor, economic geography studies the formation and development conditions of economic regional differences, the characteristics of regional division of labor and specialization, the changing laws of regional economic relations, regional industrial structure and economic regional movements, and explores scientific ways to optimize the allocation of production factors and rational distribution of industrial departments, so as to achieve the best benefits of human economic activities and promote the continuous progress of economic regional systems. The theory and practice of economic geography are closely linked, and its research results in industrial layout, land and resources development and improvement, regional planning, industrial geography, agricultural geography, traffic geography, tertiary industry geography, urban economic geography and other fields directly serve economic construction.

Since the 1950s, the School of Resources and Environment of Southwest Normal University, under the leadership of the older generation of geographers Sheng, Sheng and Sheng, has carried out the teaching and scientific research of economic geography. 1984, the second batch was awarded the master's degree in economic geography (human geography). Up to now, * * * has trained 1 15 people (35 of whom have been admitted to the doctor's degree). In the field of scientific research, we should highlight the characteristics of the connection with local economy, and focus on regional industrial layout, regional planning, comprehensive development of land and resources, urban geography, tourism geography, China economic geography and world economic geography. Over the past 20 years, more than 50 textbooks and monographs have been published, more than 340 papers have been published, and more than 70 awards have been won. The research results directly serve the economic construction, and the academic level has an important influence in China, occupying a leading position in southwest China.

Four. International cooperation and exchange

In terms of international exchange, we have established academic ties with the United States, Japan, Britain, Romania, Australia, Germany and China, and actively sent visiting scholars and international students.
