The school was formed by the merger of Beijing Institute of Light Industry, Beijing Business School and Machinery Industry Management Cadre College on June 1999. The predecessor of Beijing University of Commerce was 1950 all-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives cadre school and 1953 central business cadre school. Central Business School was founded in 1959, and 1960 was renamed Beijing Business School. It is the earliest business school in New China.
