Yanshan University, formerly known as Northeast University of Heavy Machinery, 1978 was identified as a national key university. Shijiazhuang tiedao university was originally the Railway Corps Engineering College of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and was added as a national key university in 1979- 198 1 year.

Since it can be selected as a national key university, the strength of this university should be good. In fact, Yanshan University and shijiazhuang tiedao university are both key universities in Hebei Province and two universities with relatively strong comprehensive strength.

Yanshan University is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and the People's Government of Hebei Province. It is a national first-class university and a world-class discipline construction university supported by Hebei Province, and was selected into the education and training plan for outstanding engineers.

In the fourth discipline evaluation, Yanshan University got an A- in mechanical engineering, which tied with many famous universities. Materials science and engineering won B+, which shows the strength of mechanical engineering and materials science. In particular, mechanical engineering is the only discipline awarded Class A in Hebei Province, which also shows that Yanshan University is the most powerful engineering college in Hebei Province.
