Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications is a 2 1 1 school. Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, which is the key construction of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the first batch of "2 1 1 project" was built. It is also a key university under the project of "985 Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform". It is a multi-disciplinary research university characterized by information technology, focusing on engineering, and coordinating the development of production, management, literature and science. It is an important information technology talent training base in China. In 20 17, two discipline groups, "information network science and technology discipline group" and "computer science and network security discipline group" entered the ranks of first-class discipline construction.

Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, founded in 1955, formerly known as Beijing Institute of Posts and Telecommunications, is the first post and telecommunications institution in People's Republic of China (PRC), under the former Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. 1960 was identified as a national key university by the State Council. 1993, renamed as "Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications". In 2000, it was listed in the ranks of universities directly under the Ministry of Education.

As of July, 2022, the school has a team of teachers with academicians of China Academy of Sciences, China Academy of Engineering, foreign academicians, winners of major national talent projects or talent projects, winners of national and provincial teacher awards, and experts enjoying special government allowances as the backbone.
