Many American colleges and universities belong to some special alliances, which not only promote the sports harmony among colleges and universities, but also pay attention to the competition and harmony of the educational goals of college members. Each league consists of a group of schools, which can cooperate with each other in a certain sports and academic scope to achieve their respective goals. Usually, the members of an alliance's colleges and universities are within the designated area of the United States. This paper briefly introduces some major American school alliances.
Ivy League.
In the United States, "Ivy League institutions" are generally compared with institutions of higher learning, but only some schools are recognized as "Ivy League institutions". The Ivy League consists of eight schools in the northeastern United States: Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth University, Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University and Yale University. Except Cornell University, these schools were established before the American Revolution, and the admission standards of each institution are very strict. The records of academic and sports competitions between these schools began at the end of19th century. With many people joining the most prestigious academic associations, the Ivy League has become the alma mater of most American and world leaders.
There is a saying that the original name of Ivy can be traced back to 1937. A new york newspaper writer coined this term because the oldest and most elite school buildings in the United States are covered with ivy. Another theory has an older explanation for this term, which comes from an earlier sports association called "Four Leage", whose members include Columbia University, Harvard University, Princeton University and Yale University. According to the second theory, while maintaining the academic tradition, the "quadruple" is written as the "quadruple" of Roman numerals. When reading English letters, "IV" and "Ivy" are pronounced the same. No matter which theory is correct, by 1954, the word "Ivy League" (also known as the Ivy League President's Council) was formally formed and used.
Great Eastern Alliance (Great East).
Dadonglian was established on 1979. Schools belonging to this alliance include: Boston College, University of Connecticut, Georgetown University, Miami University, Notre Dame University, University of Pittsburgh, Providence University, Rutgers University, Seton Hall University, St. John's University, Suracus University, Temple University, Villanova University, Virginia Tech University and West Virginia University. As far as groups are concerned, the Great Eastern Alliance has a broad-based curriculum tradition and is led by administrators and coaches who often pay attention to academic integrity. Its student athletes have a high graduation rate, and their academic performance reflects the balance between sports and academics among universities.
Top ten (top ten)
The Union was founded in 1896, and 1996 celebrated its centenary. The basic members of the top ten leagues are as follows: University of Chicago, University of Illinois, University of Michigan, University of Minnesota, Northwestern University, Purdue University and University of Wisconsin (Univ).
University of Wisconsin), Indiana University and the University of Iowa
Iowa State University) 1899 just joined the league, and Ohio State University 19 12 just joined. University of Chicago 1946 dropped out, and Michigan State College (now Michigan State University) joined 1949 three years later. The newest member of the top ten is Pennsylvania State University, 1990 joined.
The member institutions of the top ten leagues have cooperative relations in many fields, such as academics, scientific research and sports. This cooperation group consists of two organizations: the School Cooperation Committee (CIC) and the Chinese and Western University (MUCIA) of the international activity company.
Ten Pacific Alliance (Pacific 10)
The origin of the Top Ten pacific alliance is called "Pac 10", which can be traced back to the establishment of the Pacific Coast Alliance (PCC) 80 years ago. The original members include four schools: University of California at Berkeley, University of Washington, University of Oregon and Oregon State College. Oregon State University. The current members of the Pacific Ten-nation Alliance include the University of Arizona, Arizona State University and the University of California, Berkeley. University of California, Los Angeles), University of Oregon, University of Southern California, Stanford University, University of Washington, Washington State University. In the Pacific Ten-nation Alliance, there is a great deal of cooperation and scope change among academic departments, working members and research centers of college members.
Southeast conference.
The Southeast Conference was established in 1933, replacing the earlier organization in 1894. The members of this alliance are Alabama, Arkansas, Ohio, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana State University, Mississippi, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. Schools of Southeast Conference cooperate in academic and research projects in a wide and diversified way, which are beneficial to participating institutions and the communities they serve.
Other meetings (other meetings)
There are about thirty university alliances in the United States. The members of these colleges and universities include many well-known schools, which are too numerous to mention, so I won't go into details here. The above unnamed alliances are: East America, Atlantic Coast, Atlantic X (Atlantic 10), Big Sky, Great South, Big Twelve (Big 12), Great West, Colonial Movement Association, American League, Great Atlantic, Central America, Central China, Middle East Atlantic, Midwest College, Missouri Valley, Northeast China, etc. Schools that do not belong to the special league are "independent" schools.
The British Northern University Association (NCUK) initiated the establishment of the British University Association (UKUP). It is composed of world-class universities such as Bristol University, Birmingham University, Leeds University, Manchester University, Sheffield University, Aston University, branford University, Huddersfield University, Kent University, Kingston University, Leeds City University, Liverpool John Mures University, Liverpool University, Queen's College London University, Manchester City University, Seif University and Sheffield Haram University, representing 30% of British higher education.
