Zhu Guangqian (1897- 1986) is an aesthetician. Tongcheng, Anhui. 1922 graduated from the liberal arts education department of the University of Hong Kong. 1930 received a master's degree in literature from the University of Edinburgh. 1933 received a doctorate in literature from the University of Strasbourg, France. After returning to China, he served as Professor Peking University, Professor of Sichuan University, Dean of College of Liberal Arts, Professor of Wuhan University, and Dean of Educational Administration. After 1946, he successively served as Professor Peking University, Acting Dean of College of Arts, the first president of China Aesthetic Society, and the third to fifth Central Committee members of NLD. Member of the second to fifth CPPCC and member of the Standing Committee of the sixth CPPCC. He has been engaged in aesthetic teaching and research all his life, and has made great achievements in western aesthetic thought and Chinese and western cultural research. He is the author of Tragedy Psychology, Literature Psychology and History of Western Aesthetics, which was translated into Aesthetics by Hegel.
