The history of Donghua University can be traced back to Nantong Textile Printing and Dyeing Institute founded by Zhang Jian in 19 12. The school was founded in 195 1, named East China Institute of Textile Technology, which was formed by the merger of the Textile Department of Jiaotong University and other textile departments in East China, Central South and Southwest China. 1985 was renamed China Textile University, and 1999 was renamed Donghua University.

As of March, 20021year, the school has seven disciplines, including chemistry, engineering, mathematics, materials science, computer science, environmental science and ecology, and biology and biochemistry, ranking in the top of ESI world 1%.

The field of engineering discipline was before ARWU entered the world 150 University (ranking of universities established by Shanghai Jiaotong University). MBA education has passed AMBA certification and ranked 1 1 in "China's Most Influential MBA Rankings".
