The Resident Politics of New Credo Island
The earliest inhabitants came from Papua and Polynesia. 1774 was discovered by an Englishman James. 1843, Britain sent a Commissioner to the island. /kloc-became a French colony in 0/853 and later merged with Tahiti. 1860 became an independent administrative region. 1946 became a French overseas territory. The first district committee was established in 1956. 1976 12 established a government committee, which enjoys partial autonomy in handling internal affairs. The governor appointed by France was changed to High Commissioner, and Sinca had two representatives in the French National Assembly and one representative in the Senate. 1979 the French government dissolved the government Committee and placed new Cameroon under the direct rule of the French government. In the following years, the political parties in New Cameroon held many consultations with the French government on the independence of New Cameroon, but failed to find an effective solution. 198612February, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution, and Xinca was included in the list of UN Non-Self-Governing Territories, thus confirming that residents of Xinca enjoyed the right to autonomy. 1In June 1988, the Partido Paz (National Union for the Defence of Caledonia) and the Kanak Socialist National Liberation Front signed the Matignon Agreement with France in Paris. According to the agreement, one year later, the new Cameroon will implement limited local autonomy; New Cameroon established three autonomous provinces of North, South and Loyal, and held a referendum in 1998 to decide whether the new Cameroon was independent. 1since July 1999, France has gradually transferred most of its power to three newly elected provincial councils.
