Introduction.

The school 1958 was founded in Beijing, formerly known as Beijing Electric Power Institute, and has long been managed by the national electric power department. 1969 school moved to Handan, Hebei province, 1970 moved to Baoding, renamed Hebei Electric Power Institute. 1978 was approved by the State Council as a national key university, and was renamed as North China Electric Power Institute in the same year.

1995, North China Electric Power University and Beijing Institute of Electric Power Economics merged to form North China Electric Power University. In March 2003, the school was placed under the management of the Ministry of Education by the former State Power Company and officially became a university directly under the Ministry of Education.
