18 13 Bishan academy, which was rebuilt on the basis of Zhao in xingyi normal university for nationalities, was renamed many times and changed to Xingyi Normal School in Guizhou Province in 1952, which began the history of modern normal education.
1975 was named "May 7th Teachers College" in Xingyi area, 1978 was renamed Xingyi Teachers College, 1982 was renamed as Southwest Guizhou Teachers College for Nationalities, and 1993 was renamed as Southwest Guizhou Teachers College for Nationalities. 200 1 started to run a joint school with Guizhou Normal University to train undergraduate students.
In 2005, Xingyi Normal School and Anlong Normal School for Nationalities merged into Southwest Guizhou Normal College for Nationalities, which expanded the scale of running a school. In March 2009, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was officially upgraded to xingyi normal university for nationalities. It is a local full-time undergraduate college with "co-construction of provinces and states, with the state as the mainstay".

The school is located in Xingyi, the capital of Southwest Guizhou.
