4- 1903. 10.7) German mathematician. Born near Konigsberg (now Kaliningrad, Russia), he died in Bonn. 1847 15 years old studied under F.E. Neumann (Franz Ernst, 1798- 1895) at the University of Konigsberg, and soon transferred to Berlin to study under Dirichlet (Peter Gustav Lejeune, 65435). 1853 received his doctorate on August 9. Then he taught at Konigsberg Preparatory School and Elbin Preparatory School for four years, returned to Berlin University in 1857, and became a professor of mathematics at Bourne University in 1864. He has been elected as a communication academician of the Paris Academy of Sciences and research institutes in Berlin, G? ttingen and Rome.

Main contribution

edit

Lipshits' contribution to mathematics involves many disciplines, especially in the fields of ordinary differential equations and differential geometry.

When searching for the existence of solutions of ordinary differential equations, the famous "Lipschitz condition" identification method was created, and Cauchy-Lipschitz existence theorem was obtained.

In the field of algebraic number theory, the symbolic representation of real transformation and its calculation rules are introduced, and a hypercomplex system called "Lipshits algebra" is established, which lays the foundation for the development of this subject.

Differential geometry is a subject that Lipshits has been engaged in for a long time and has made great achievements. He has published a series of works since 1869, and studied the relevant results of George Friedrich Ferdinand Prinz von Preu?en Bernhard Riemann (1826 ~1866)1854. Starting with the generalization of the concept of N-dimensional geometry, this paper discusses the properties of multiple differential and submanifolds, thus initiating the study of the theory of differential invariants, so it is considered as one of the founders of covariant differential. His work was carried forward by Ricci (1853- 1925) and others. The absolute differential calculus of C.G. Rich was used by Einstein to establish his general theory of relativity from 19 13.

On the basis of mathematics, the book Fundamentals of Analysis (2 volumes, 1877- 1880) was published, which systematically expounded from rational integer theory to function theory.

In addition, Lipshits also made many contributions in mechanics and physics.
