After years of hard work, the department of atomic and molecular physics has formed research directions such as atomic and molecular structure, spectrum and collision theory, excited state dynamics process of atomic molecules and clusters, femtosecond laser and ultrafast process, strong field physics, computational mathematics and physical methods. The Institute of Atomic and Molecular Physics has become one of the main bases for training and scientific research of atomic and molecular physics in China, and has trained a large number of high-quality talents for this discipline and related fields.

The condensed matter physics discipline 198 1 was approved by the state for the first time as a doctoral degree awarding point, 1986 was rated as a national key discipline, 1989 established the state key laboratory of superhard materials, and 1995 was opened to the outside world through acceptance. Focusing on the frontier of discipline development and the needs of national economic construction, this discipline has formed its own research directions, such as the preparation science and technology of superhard materials and new multifunctional high-pressure phase materials, physics under extreme conditions such as high temperature and high pressure, the physical basis and application of superhard materials, and nano-materials, and has achieved a series of innovative results. There are 6 professors 16 (including doctoral supervisor 10) and 6 associate professors in this discipline, forming a high-level academic team with strong overall strength and reasonable age and knowledge structure. The State Key Laboratory of Superhard Materials has a number of advanced high-performance scientific computing instruments and computers, which have first-class domestic condensed matter physics research and teaching conditions, and have also trained a large number of high-quality talents for this discipline and related fields.
