Facing the world and striving for first-class is the glorious tradition of journalism department. As early as the establishment of the department, Professor Xie, the first dean of the department, put forward the goal of "journalism can be comparable to foreign universities". During the period of 1935, the Department of Journalism held the "World Newspaper Exhibition", which exhibited more than 2,000 newspapers from 33 countries, and was praised as "the pioneering work in China's journalism history".

Professor Chen Wangdao, the old president of Fudan University and a famous educator, became the head of the journalism department on 194 1, and established the guiding ideology of "carrying forward the truth and transforming the society" and took "learning and learning" as the motto. 1945, the opening ceremony of the "news kiosk" initiated by him was held, and the second "World Exhibition" was held. The famous couplet "Fudan News Hall, the home of world journalists" makes the "News Hall" which integrates teaching, scientific research and experiment famous.

Shortly after the founding of New China, Professor Wang Zhong was appointed as the head of the department to carry out teaching reform, with the training goal of "a journalist with a solid foundation and a bright future". From 65438 to 0956, the Department of Journalism founded the Journalism Translation Series to introduce the achievements and trends of foreign journalism research. Professor Wang Zhong put forward the Outline of Journalism Principles, and expressed his original views on some basic viewpoints of journalism. Active journalism research has had a great influence at home and abroad.

Since the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee, the news department has set things right and entered a new period of development. 198 1 year and 1984 set up a master's degree program and a doctoral degree program respectively, forming a complete teaching system for cultivating undergraduates, master's students and doctoral students. The undergraduate education system is 4 years, and the postgraduate and doctoral education system is 3 years.

In order to meet the urgent needs of discipline development and foreign exchange, the School of Journalism of Fudan University was established in June on the basis of the growing journalism department. 1988. This is the first journalism school established by New China University. 1994, advertising major was established, and the first batch of undergraduates were enrolled.

Since 2002, six news organizations, including Jiefang Daily Newspaper Group, have become the first designated teaching practice units in the School of Journalism. The School of Journalism is also the only "provincial and ministerial press spokesman" evaluation institution of the State Council Information Office.
