Jiangsu Ocean University was renamed successfully on 20 19. Its previous name was Huaihai Institute of Technology, which gave people the impression that it was a private school. Because students from other provinces don't know where Huaihai is at all, they basically don't like this school that is not named after the region.

The history of this school is also very special. Huaihai Institute of Technology was established on the basis of Huaihai University before, so it was equivalent to demotion at that time. This special experience may be very rare in domestic universities. At that time, it was probably because the scale of the school and the situation of attracting investment did not reach the standard of "university", so the government would make adjustments.

Since 1998, Huaihai Institute of Technology has merged Jiangsu Salt School, Lianyungang Fisheries School and Lianyungang Institute of Chemical Technology. In this way, the comprehensive strength of the school has been significantly improved, and it has successfully passed the undergraduate audit of the Ministry of Education. After years of development, the school finally ushered in the opportunity to successfully become the construction unit of the doctoral degree awarding project in 20 17.

At the end of 20 17, the school discussed the renaming with the government and applied to the Ministry of Education to change its name to Jiangsu Ocean University. At that time, after many discussions, the school thought that changing to Jiangsu Ocean University was more in line with the characteristics of the school, which was conducive to improving the visibility of the school and making it easier to get through.
