I. Historical evolution
The School of Nursing of Sun Yat-sen University was established on May 8th, 1998, which was based on the former Department of Nursing of Sun Yat-sen Medical University and the Health School affiliated to Sun Yat-sen Medical University. The Department of Nursing of Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences was established in 1985. It is the first batch of schools in China and the earliest in South China to carry out higher nursing education. The Health School affiliated to Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences was established in 1953. Its predecessor was 19 13, Guangzhou Ji Bo Hospital Senior Nurse Vocational School, and 1925, School of Nursing and Midwifery, School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University (now the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University). The nursing education of Sun Yat-sen University has been running for nearly a hundred years, and has trained a large number of outstanding nursing professionals.
II. Introduction to the College
There are 20 full-time teachers in the college, including senior title 13, intermediate title 5, doctor's degree 5 and master's degree1/person. Among the full-time teachers, there are 7 doctoral tutors 1 person and 7 master tutors. In addition, there are two part-time tutors for master students, and five well-known nursing scholars from Hong Kong, Singapore and the United States have been invited as visiting professors.
The college has teaching and research sections such as basic nursing, internal medicine nursing, surgical nursing, obstetrics and gynecology nursing and pediatric nursing. The college has advanced classroom teaching and experimental teaching equipment. It is equipped with computer room and language laboratory, nursing skill teaching center and advanced nursing teaching mode at home and abroad. An integrated, multi-functional, open, advanced, networked and digital modern laboratory has been built, which provides good conditions for professional skills teaching. The Eighth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and other medical institutions have become large-scale clinical teaching bases in our hospital, ensuring the quality of clinical teaching. In the teaching of public courses and basic courses, the college relies on the strong teachers of Zhongshan Medical College, School of Public Health and School of Pharmacy of Sun Yat-sen University to teach and enjoy the teaching resources of the school.
Third, the subject characteristics
Our college has always attached great importance to discipline construction. Since the establishment of Nursing College, the professional level of nursing has been continuously improved, and the enrollment scale has been expanded year by year. After years of exploration and reform, a multi-level comprehensive nursing education system consisting of three levels of nursing specialty, undergraduate and postgraduate education, and two types of general education and adult education has been established. In 2000, our hospital began to recruit postgraduate nursing students, and in 2004, it began to recruit doctoral nursing students. According to the actual needs of nursing education and the integration with international nursing education, starting from grade 1999, our hospital shortened the undergraduate nursing education system from five years to four years, optimized the curriculum according to the principle of "strengthening humanities, emphasizing nursing, paying attention to the community and paying attention to the whole", and reflected the coordinated development of students' knowledge, ability and quality. Starting from grade 2003, the academic system of master of nursing has been shortened from three years to two years. In 2005, 20 10 of nursing specialty in our hospital was approved as a famous specialty in Guangdong province and was approved as the sixth batch of undergraduate specialty construction sites in colleges and universities by the Ministry of Education.
Our hospital not only pays attention to the cultivation of students' basic knowledge, professional skills and innovative ability, but also attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' sound personality and good ideological and moral quality, which improves the comprehensive quality of students and makes the quality of nursing education in our hospital in the advanced ranks in China. Since the establishment of higher nursing education for more than 20 years, the college has trained more than 10000 undergraduate and junior college graduates 10000, including 6 doctoral students and 23 master students 16 (including those with the same academic level). There are 277 full-time undergraduates, 59 master students, 4 doctoral students/kloc-0, 65438 undergraduate and junior college students and 2894 distance education students. The employment rate of graduates in our college ranks among the best among graduates of all majors in our school. Most graduates are active in medical and health institutions and schools at all levels, engaged in clinical nursing, teaching and management, and most of them become the backbone of employers. Some of them have served as leaders of hospitals and nursing colleges, directors of nursing departments and head nurses, and some have gone abroad for further study and employment. Graduates have won social reputation for their alma mater with their excellent performance.
