Northeastern University, located in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), which is jointly established by the Ministry of Education, Liaoning Province and Shenyang City. It is a world-class university construction university, and was selected as the first batch of national key construction universities in "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project".

The school has a branch of Northeastern University in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province.
