The college now has four departments, one department and four research centers: English Language and Literature Department, Japanese Language and Literature Department, Western Language and Literature Department (Russian, German and French), Translation Department, English Teaching Department and Translation Research Center, British and American Literature Research Center, Japanese Literature Research Center and Russian Literature Research Center. There are five undergraduate majors in English, Japanese, Russian, German and French, and Korean, Spanish, * * * * and Italian will be added in the future. The college also provides public courses in English, Japanese, German, French, Korean and Italian for all students. All three majors in Britain, Japan and Russia have the right to award master's degrees. Among them, English major also has the right to award doctoral degrees, which is a key discipline in Tianjin. In 2003, the postdoctoral mobile station of foreign languages and literature of Nankai University was established. In 2004, the foreign language discipline of our college was ranked among the top ten disciplines in China by the evaluation of the Ministry of Education.
The college has a well-organized, powerful and energetic team of teachers and management cadres. Full-time teachers 160, including 7 doctoral supervisors, 30 professors and 60 associate professors. In addition, the college invites nearly 20 foreign experts and scholars to give lectures and lectures in the college every year. The college actively carries out academic exchanges with foreign countries, vigorously trains young teachers, and sends teachers abroad for further study, lectures or visits every year. The college has excellent teaching conditions, advanced language laboratory and multimedia classroom, a brief introduction to Li, and a rich collection of books and audio-visual materials. Students not only have good classroom learning conditions and environment, but also have a colorful extracurricular life. Special lectures, English salons, English corners, annual foreign language festivals, speech contests and debate contests have all become students' second classes. In particular, students' foreign language festival drama activities have become a major feature, and their reputation has spread far and wide. In recent years, the Student Foreign Language Drama Club has rehearsed many famous foreign language dramas, among which the English and Japanese versions of Thunderstorm and Camel Xiangzi have been successfully performed in the United States, Japan and other countries. Student Peking Opera Troupe is very famous. He has visited Japan, Hongkong, Taiwan Province and other countries and regions, and performed 100 at home and abroad. It is one of the four major student societies of Nankai University and the first Peking Opera Troupe for students visiting abroad in China. The College Information Center has more than 30,000 books in English, Japanese, Russian, German and French. American literature, in particular, includes American novels, essays, poems and reviews 10000. The college audio-visual education center has modern language equipment and multimedia classrooms, and has opened the college computer local area network, which is connected with the campus network center and the Internet. All offices and some classrooms of the college can receive English, Japanese, Russian, German, French and other foreign language TV programs at the same time. In order to improve the reform of enrollment fee system, Nankai University has taken a number of supporting measures and established various scholarships. Every year, 35% of students can enjoy scholarships of different grades, which creates favorable conditions for outstanding students to stand out. English language family
The predecessor of our department is the English Department of Nankai University, which was founded in the autumn of 193 1, and is the mother of Nankai foreign language discipline. As far as the faculty and the number of students at that time were concerned, it was the first among all departments of Nankai University. The first dean was Professor Chen Kui, and the following year he was succeeded by Mr. Liu Wuji, the son of the famous scholar Liu Yazi. 1937 after the outbreak of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, our department was forced to close down and moved to the national The National SouthWest Associated University, and reopened with the birth of 1949 new China. From the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC) to the1980s, Professor Li, a famous writer and translator, was the head of the department. Later, Professor Chang, a doctor of American literature and doctoral tutor, took over to introduce Li. The current head of the department is Professor Su. Over the past 70 years, famous scholars such as Liang, Bian, Luo Dagang, Cha, Situ Yuelan, Li and Gao Diansen have taught in our department successively, and famous British female writers such as Han have been hired as honorary professors.
Our department is now a key discipline in Tianjin and has the right to award doctoral degrees.
