Hainan University Law School was founded in 1988. At present, the college has three legal research institutions, namely, the Department of Theoretical Law, the Department of Procedural Law, the Department of Civil and Commercial Law, the Department of Economic Law, the Department of International Law and the Department of Criminal Law, as well as three legal research institutions, namely, the SAR Law Research Institute, the Financial Criminal Law Research Center and the China-Europe Comparative Law Research Center.

There is only one law major in the law school of Haida University, and only about 120 undergraduates are enrolled in some parts of the country every year. Minors are for graduate students, among which civil and commercial law is famous and can be compared with well-known law schools in China.
