Cambridge is a city adjacent to Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Across the Charles River from downtown Boston, it belongs to the Boston metropolitan area. It is home to two world-famous universities, Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The history of Cambridge can be traced back to 1630. The English Puritans who first settled in Boston established "Newton Town".
1636, Harvard College, the predecessor of Harvard University and the first higher education institution in North America, was established here. It is hoped that this town will become a university town like Cambridge, England. 1638 changed its name to "Cambridge". The town was upgraded to Cambridge on 1846.
