Universities of Applied Sciences in western Yunnan (hereinafter referred to as "Yunnan University") is the first batch of Universities of Applied Sciences approved by the Ministry of Education from 2065438 to April 2005. On May 20 17, the school was formally established with the approval of the Ministry of Education. As a new type of ordinary public undergraduate college, Yunnan West University mainly cultivates applied advanced technical and technical talents urgently needed by regional economic and social development.

Drawing on the German and Swiss Universities of Applied Sciences model, Yunnan West University has adopted an open school-running framework with its headquarters, some characteristic colleges and applied technology research institutes (1+N+M) as the main body, and an integrated school-running model of "politics, production, learning, research and application".
In accordance with the principle of "hierarchical governance, integration of production and education, demand-driven, cooperative education, open connection and joint construction of provinces and departments", starting from the strategic needs of economic and social development in western Yunnan, undergraduate education is the mainstay, and higher education and continuing education are integrated and developed. Build a training program and curriculum system based on post professional ability, and implement the "double certificate" system of academic degree certificate and professional qualification certificate.
The headquarters of Yunnan West University is located in Dali City, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, with a planned land area of 329 mu and a total construction area of about 6.5438+0.88 million square meters.
Through active exploration and practice, the school-running framework of headquarters plus several characteristic colleges and applied technology research institutes ("1+N+M") has been formed, and four types of schools, namely, characteristic colleges plus directly affiliated colleges, cooperative education and specialized production-education integration training bases, have been consolidated and expanded, and three characteristic colleges, namely, Dai Pharmaceutical College, Pu 'er Tea College and Jewelry College, have been built.
