Unlike many translators, I didn't go to the theater for the words "show China's rigorous translation professional training" in the synopsis. Idol drama, all professional backgrounds can only be one background, and the inner core is definitely love. Li Bihua said that a good novel can generally be summed up in eight words: "Marriage, joys and sorrows".
So I know very well that I am going to see the love between Sir Huang and power. However, all the plots related to translation and French in the play are inevitably concerned. After all, for French students, learning French for four years has long been an existence that they dare not get tired of. Just like lovers who have been in love for four years, they will miss each other even if they are separated.
After watching 19 episode, I was still not satisfied, so Seventeen wanted to write this article, voicing the translator's seven plots from the perspective of a person who had studied French for four years. Maybe I'm picky. I'm here to commemorate. You should be happy.
1
The first is the title of the play, the translator.
All language learners must admire powerful translation. However, it seems that I have never heard of the word "translator". No matter how powerful the translation is, it seems that it cannot be called "official". In a general meeting, the name tag of the translator will say "interpreter", but never "translator".
Many language learners dream of becoming diplomats, but they have never heard of the dream of becoming translators.
I remember when the teacher gave an example, he would say how the Ministry of Foreign Affairs translated it. For students who are determined to become translators, "graduation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs" can be said to be their highest career ideal. I wonder if this "high translation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs" corresponds to the "translation" in the play.
2
The play overemphasizes the importance of translation.
I remember when I was at school, my teacher told us about the requirements of dress etiquette and other translators. As a translator, one thing must be observed: reduce your sense of existence as much as possible.
For example, in a meeting, the translator should always stand or sit behind the leader and try not to look at the camera. In any meeting or activity, translation can never be the protagonist.
The translation in the play really steals the camera, and even feels deified. In several activities, I always feel that Huang Xuan is the protagonist of the activity, but in fact he is just a translator.
three
If the story is necessary for the translator to "steal the mirror", that feeling is understandable. However, the director should always pay attention to the translator's dress.
As mentioned above, translators should minimize their sense of existence. This also limits its dress, which must be decent and unobtrusive. Generally speaking, translators are petite. Women generally wear ear-length short hair, flat shoes or low-heeled shoes, and dark professional clothes.
However, in the play, Yang Mi wore a skirt with a sense of design and stepped on high heels of about 10 centimeters. It's really not like translation.
four
Generally speaking, there are at least two simultaneous interpreters at a meeting. Simultaneous interpreters sit in the "box" and two partners translate for the meeting. In the process of translation, if one party has problems, the partner will save the scene in time.
In the play, Huang Xuan and his colleagues have done simultaneous interpretation together. A colleague listened to a poem by Keats and failed to translate it in time. At this time, Huang Xuan wrote this English poem on a piece of paper and gave it to his partner.
But simultaneous interpretation requires high speed. Generally, if one party has a problem, the other party will translate it immediately, so there should be no time to write the sentence on paper and give it to your other half. This will waste too much time.
Of course, the director may have designed this plot to show Huang Xuan's handsomeness. Well, I'm actually handsome, too. Although I think this action is very handsome and unrealistic.
five
The first episode of the play, when Huang Xuan and Yang Mi meet for the first time. Huang Xuan criticized Yang Mi for translating anthropology into sociology. Yang Mi defended himself, because the word anthropology was too difficult, and he didn't know it until he was a junior and a sophomore. Huang Xuan said that this word is clearly a word in a freshman textbook.
Later, Yang Mi checked the textbooks and found that the word anthropology really existed in the textbooks of freshmen, but it was just an extension.
So, what is the textbook she took?
All over France. And it is the second volume of All France.
I want to say that it seems that none of the French departments of domestic universities directly use "Travel All over France" as a teaching material. This is just an extracurricular study textbook. There was a time when foreign teachers used this set of books as audio-visual teaching materials, but it was definitely not a teaching material.
In addition, it is said in the play that "Full Law 2" is a textbook for freshmen. I can only say that at my freshman level, even if I study, I can only learn "the whole method 1".

There is also a small spit, which is about dictionaries.
The dictionary we use at school is very old. I always feel that I have a deep affection for this dictionary, because it takes too long and has been turned over too many times. I know this dictionary, in fact, in high school. At that time, I had not learned French, and I was a senior three student, and I wanted to enroll in French major. Once, I read an article in a magazine sharing the experience of college entrance examination. Through hard work, the author of that article was admitted to the French Department of Nankai University.
I always remember a sentence in that article to the effect that now I can walk through the campus full of wild roses with larousse in one hand and larousse in the other. The dictionary is heavy, but it is very happy.
About that time, I learned that the dictionary used by French students was larousse, and I began to yearn for the day when I could walk across the campus with larousse in my arms. Later, my larousse did accompany me for four years.
But! In the play, Huang Xuan asked Yang Mi to recite the dictionary several times, but none of the dictionaries appeared were larousse! Ah, I just want to say, why can't the prop teacher satisfy my larousse feelings? After all, the dictionaries used by most universities in China are very old.
seven
Finally, I really don't understand why The Translator, as a French drama, doesn't set the foreign scene in France. As far as the current episode of 19 is concerned, almost all foreign scenes are in Switzerland.
For example, the two protagonists first met at the University of Zurich. But strictly speaking, the University of Zurich should belong to the German-speaking area of Switzerland.
In fact, many people who watch this play in French like me really want to see the iron tower and the Seine River in the play. I really don't want to see only Switzerland.
After writing this essay, I suddenly remembered when I read the book Translator last year.
About this time last year, I finished reading The Translator while waiting for someone. It was very hot that day. I went to a man's house, but he was not at home. So I sat in front of his house and looked at the translator I had installed on my mobile phone.
On the evening of early summer, I sat on the concrete floor, leaning against a locked door. Time became very slow, and I turned over this trite and loving story page by page, watching the people in the story experience joys and sorrows. I waited for the man for three hours and read the whole book The Translator.
Now that I think about it, I just feel that those three hours, whether beautiful or not, can't go back. I can't go back, and I studied French for four years.
I may never spend three hours sitting at the door of a house, waiting for him to come back without complaining. I can't go back to college, and I have been reciting words and texts from morning till night for four years.
But because I loved it, I always miss it. Just like when I see a translator, I always think of the days when I learned French, and I can't help but feel sick.
Well, it's actually a fairly good idol drama. It's just that the workplace and love inside can only be seen from a distance and cannot be pondered.
