University of Electronic Science and Technology of China is located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, formerly known as Chengdu Institute of Telecommunications Engineering. Under the personal deployment of Premier Zhou Enlai on 1956, it was formed by the merger of telecommunications engineering related majors of Jiaotong University (now Shanghai Jiaotong University and Xi Jiaotong University), Nanjing University of Science and Technology (now Southeast University) and South China University of Technology (now South China University of Technology). 1997 was identified as the first batch of national key universities of "2 1 1 project". In 2000, the former Minister of Information Industry was transferred to the Minister of Education, and in 20001entered the ranks of "985 Project" national key universities.
