The University of Southern California is a private university, which is managed by the Board of Supervisors. It consists of about 50 directors, several managing directors, honorary directors and retired directors who do not vote. The voting members of the Supervisory Committee shall serve for five years, and one-fifth of the seats shall be re-elected every year. Only directors who do not stand for election can vote.

Most directors are composed of executives from large institutions (including domestic and international), outstanding alumni and university administrators or a combination of the three.
