The school's predecessor was Beijing Institute of Machinery, which was founded in 1958 and Shaanxi University of Technology in 1960. The history of the two schools can be traced back to the Peiping Public Utilities Tutorial School founded by Fan Yuanlian, the education chief of the Republic of China, in 19 19, and the National Xi 'an Temporary University (civil engineering water conservancy group) established in 1937. 1972, Beijing Institute of Machinery and Shaanxi University of Technology merged to form Shaanxi Institute of Machinery, which was affiliated to the First Ministry of Machinery Industry.
