Zhejiang Ocean University is a university approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, and it is one of the key universities in Zhejiang Province.

The school was founded in 1958, formerly known as Zhoushan Fisheries College. 1975 was renamed Zhejiang Fisheries College, and 1998 merged with Zhoushan Normal College to form Zhejiang Ocean College. After 2000, Zhoushan Health School, Zhejiang Fisheries School, Zhejiang Institute of Marine Fisheries, Zhoushan Petrochemical School and Zhoushan Commercial School merged (settled in) one after another.
