Chen Shengshen's Personality Evaluation
Professor Chen is a great mathematician and a great mathematical activist. He made an important contribution to the success of the 2002 Beijing International Congress of Mathematicians. He also delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the conference at the age of 90, and his nobility and wisdom will always be remembered by friends and colleagues all over the world. (John, President of the International Mathematical Union? Bauer comments)

Professor Chen is the main representative of contemporary mathematics, which has a great influence on his geometry discipline and the broader field of mathematics. His contribution has been recognized by the Wolf Prize and the recently awarded Shaw Prize. He trained many excellent students and always encouraged young mathematicians. His other two important contributions are the establishment of the American Institute of Mathematical Sciences (in Berkeley) and the Nankai Institute of Mathematics in China. Although it is sad that he will not be alive until the unveiling ceremony of the new building of Nankai Institute of Mathematics next year, anyone can see that he has worked hard to accomplish important things and will be proud of its operation. Mr. Chen Shengshen is an internationally renowned master of mathematics. Mr. Chen initiated and led the research in the fields of global differential geometry, fiber bundle differential geometry and "Chen Province Physics Course". His outstanding contribution to global differential geometry influenced the development of the whole mathematics. The unfortunate death of Mr. Chen Shengshen is a great loss to the international and China scientific and technological circles, and also makes us lose a respected teacher. Mr. Chen Shengshen's dedication to science, his pursuit of truth and his achievements in science will go down in history forever. (Comments by Lu Yongxiang)
