Xiamen University was founded in 192 1 by Mr. Chen Jiageng, a famous patriotic overseas Chinese leader. It is a national key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education and a high-level university built by the national "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project".

Undergraduate enrollment starts from 1983 and 1984. 1987 was approved to set up a master's degree awarding point in musicology and fine arts; In 2003, it approved the establishment of a master's degree awarding point in art and design; In 2005, the establishment of Master of Arts (MFA) degree awarding point was approved.
