Kunming University of Science and Technology was founded on September 4th. 1954 was named Kunming University of Science and Technology, 1995 was renamed Kunming University of Science and Technology, and 1999 merged with Yunnan University of Technology to form a new Kunming University of Science and Technology.
The school has four campuses: Chenggong, Lianhua, Xinying and Songming, covering an area of 39 15 mu (excluding Songming campus). The main campus is Chenggong Campus, located in Chenggong University Town, Kunming.
After 68 years of development, the school has now become a comprehensive university with a combination of science and technology, distinctive industry and regional characteristics, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. It is the largest key university in Yunnan Province with complete levels and categories, and plays an important role in China's non-ferrous metal industry and regional economic and social development.
A large number of scientific and technological innovative talents and important scientific and technological achievements have emerged, among which Professor Qu initiated the "damping principle" and applied it to the development of China's first artificial earth satellite.
Professor Liu Beichen invented the world's first inverted arch cable bridge; The process and equipment for removing crude tin, lead and bismuth by electrothermal continuous crystallizer invented by Professor Li Menggeng was praised as the greatest invention of tin metallurgy in the 20th century by western metallurgical circles. Coupled with the vacuum separation technology of lead and tin by solder invented by Professor Dai Yongnian, modern pyrometallurgical tin smelting technology has been formed and extended to tin smelters all over the world.
