The school was founded in 1954, formerly known as Kunming University of Science and Technology. 1995 was renamed Kunming University of Science and Technology; 1999 The former Kunming University of Science and Technology merged with the former Yunnan University of Technology to form a new Kunming University of Science and Technology.
