Sichuan University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. It was formed by the merger of Sichuan University, Chengdu University of Technology and West China University of Medical Sciences in April 1994 and September 2000. The former Sichuan University was founded in 1896, formerly known as Sichuan Chinese and Western School. The former Chengdu University of Science and Technology was developed from Chengdu University of Technology, which was established in 1954 when the national departments were adjusted.
