The School of Physical Education of Sichuan Normal University was established in 1993 on the basis of the Department of Physical Education of Sichuan Normal University. Its predecessor was the Physical Education Department of the Basic Department of Sichuan Normal University. After the historical evolution of the Department of Physical Education and the Department of Physical Education, it was renamed the Institute of Physical Education in 2002.

At present, the college has physical education department, social sports department, teaching materials and teaching methods research institute and other institutions, with two undergraduate majors of physical education and social sports, as well as master's degree authorization points of physical education and training and master's degree authorization points of physical education.
