In September of 20xx, according to the unified arrangement of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Daqing Normal University, I undertook the work of academic tutor for 36 students in Class 4 of 20xx Chemical Engineering and Technology. In the practice of tutor work for one year, I gradually realized the importance of tutor work, and gradually established feelings with students. From the practice of tutor work, I realized that it is not an easy thing to really do tutor work and perform tutor duties. One year has passed, and the relevant work is now reported as follows:
First, understand the basic situation of students
In view of the common problems and puzzles of freshmen in adapting to college life, professional study and employment, we have communicated many times through interviews and telephone calls, and found that the common problems of freshmen are as follows:
1. Not fully adapted to college life. After finishing middle school and entering the university campus, everything is very fresh. Some students have not changed even from the rest period after the college entrance examination to now. They feel that there are fewer people in charge of themselves and they are free, but at the same time they feel very lost, and they don't know how to adapt to college life and how to arrange a lot of spare time.
2. The learning objectives are not clear enough. Students are eager to learn *, but due to the lack of correct guidance, they can't clearly locate their learning goals. Many students even stay in college and have just passed the exam.
3. Lack of correct learning methods. The teaching methods and methods of university teachers are completely different from those of middle school teachers, and the number of courses taught by universities is more; There are also many contents and knowledge points taught in each class; Some courses have homework, some courses have no homework, and there are no exams at ordinary times. Students can't adapt and don't know how to study. When I waited for the first semester exam, I found myself in a fog and didn't have a correct learning method.
4. I feel very confused about professional goals and professional knowledge. Because I mainly studied basic courses this year after I entered school, I couldn't get in touch with the knowledge related to my major. I was at a loss at that time and wanted to know something about this major.
5. Students' learning foundation is uneven. In this class I direct, 36 students are all from Daqing, and their entrance scores are different from other classes. So the student base is different.
Second, guide students to clarify their learning direction and learning objectives.
On the basis of understanding the actual situation of students, when communicating with my classmates, I told my classmates that learning is the foundation of college students' survival and the knowledge, ability and quality system that college students should concentrate on mastering. Study hard and you will have a good job and a good career.
1. Ask students to make an overall plan for their four-year study in university. Standing at the gate of the university campus, students must think about their studies. What should I do after entering the university? Still an old saying goes: the bounden duty of college students is to study, and the university is a paradise for learning. Life may be long, but only in the past few years in college can people learn fully and freely. After this stage, it is difficult to find it again. After taking part in the work, you are either in the mood or have time. Therefore, you must not learn something that is temporarily useless, or you don't like this major and don't study it. Students should set their own goals according to social needs, social development trends, personal interests, specialties and majors during their college years. And according to the established goals, do a good job in practical career planning. Then, according to the established plan, make preparations early and put them into action. To this end, I ask everyone in the class to plan their studies and hand in their study plans. Judging from the academic plans handed in by students, some students make plans for themselves every academic year, and some even make daily academic plans. No matter how students plan their studies, they should at least know what to study, how to study and when to study, so as to ensure that they can successfully complete their studies, lay a solid foundation for successful employment or career development, improve their quality advantages, and seize opportunities and succeed in the fierce competition in the future.
2. Students' classified guidance. According to students' study plans and goals, students are divided into two categories, one is preparing for the postgraduate entrance examination, and the other is preparing to find a job immediately after graduation. According to the guidance of different students, students who take the postgraduate entrance examination are required to study basic courses, such as mathematics, English, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and so on. When they are freshmen and sophomores, they must learn professional courses well; At the same time, you must pass the national English test band 4 during your college years; Students who are about to find a job are required to cultivate their ability to deal with people and things while studying basic courses and professional courses. They are required to pass at least CET-4 and CET-2, so as to be fully prepared for finding a job in the future.
3, combined with their own learning and teaching experience, to teach professional basic course learning methods. In view of the fact that students generally find it difficult to learn mathematics, English and basic chemistry, some learning methods are taught, and at the same time, they are encouraged to contact with their senior classmates and learn some learning methods from them.
4. Instruct students how to register for elective courses. Introduce the elective courses listed in the college one by one, and analyze the main contents and characteristics of each course, so that students can choose according to their own preferences in combination with the courses they have already studied.
Third, make friends with students and be their mentor.
The freshmen are unfamiliar with everything on campus, and there are some difficulties and puzzles in their study and life to varying degrees. The first time I met a student, the first thing I said to my classmates was that we were not only teachers and students, but also friends. At the same time, I use my years of study, teaching and life experience to tell students how to study and live; As friends, we can communicate and learn from each other.
Fourth, convince people with reason, move people with emotion, care for students, and comprehensively improve the quality of study and life.
Because all the students in the class are from Daqing, their family conditions are relatively superior, but some students feel relaxed when they go to college. With their parents' money, they began to entertain themselves, indulge in online games, invite classmates to dinner, keep up with competitions, think about eating, drinking and having fun every day, and don't care about learning at all. Faced with these phenomena, I told my classmates that their parents' money was hard earned. They should know how to cherish, know how to be grateful, learn to live, have a pursuit in life, and make money by their own ability in the future. Going to college is not the goal, but the starting point of the long March of life. How to master professional knowledge and eventually become a useful person for the country is what we should do. Having said that, it is still very useful for some students. For students' learning situation, we often communicate with student cadres and student counselors, grasp and praise the advanced students at any time, and analyze and find out the reasons for the backward students and encourage them more.
Fifth, analyze the structure of professional knowledge to help students establish professional ideas.
Because junior students haven't entered professional courses yet, they know little about professional knowledge. In view of this situation, explain to students what knowledge this major will learn, what is the relationship between these knowledge, and what role it will play in the future society, so that students can learn each course with goals. For students who are determined to take the postgraduate entrance examination, help them understand the importance of which courses in the postgraduate entrance examination and participate in scientific research in the future. So as to help students establish professional ideas, let students apply what they have learned and have a clear purpose. Only in this way can students have a correct learning attitude, have a direction in their study and learn better.
Six, gradually guide students' all-round development
The extensiveness of knowledge content in university learning determines that university learning is challenging. How to plan the four-year study life reasonably plays a vital role in what level to reach in the future. In view of the fact that freshmen have just stepped out of the hard study state of high school and entered a fascinating and ignorant new environment, in the specific guidance process, we should follow the guiding principle of step by step to guide students to break through a series of problems encountered in their studies and achieve the ultimate goal of all-round development.
For example, in the first semester of this school year, my guidance plan is arranged like this. For the first time, after a brief understanding, let the students discuss the goals and plans of the university in groups, and then discuss these topics together; The second time, explain the colorful college life to the students and distinguish it from the study life in high school; The third time, I discussed with my classmates how to learn the basic and public courses of economics well and stated my advantages and disadvantages. The fourth time, briefly introduce the learning experience of English, computer and mathematics to students, and tell them that the study of these subjects has an important impact on their future study and employment; The fifth time, explain how to review the final exam.
In a word, during more than one year's work as an academic tutor, I have learned a lot of new things, and deeply felt the importance of this work and the necessity for teachers to perform their duties seriously. In this school year, I carried out some activities and gave some necessary guidance according to the specific conditions and requirements of students. However, due to the heavy teaching and scientific research work, my work still has many shortcomings. For example, in the final exam of the second semester of the 20xx-20xx academic year, 19 students in our class failed in college foreign languages, 16 students failed in the basic principles of Marxism, and some failed. Many students are not interested in learning and the effect of attending classes is poor; During the self-study exam, the learning effect is poor. I will gradually improve and perfect these problems in the future guidance process.
