Survey technology and engineering (drilling and excavation engineering) is an old specialty of science and technology established in 1960s, formerly known as prospecting engineering. 1978 became the authorized point of master's degree, and later it was renamed exploration engineering according to the national professional adjustment, and it was renamed exploration technology and engineering (drilling and excavation engineering) again around 2000. At the same time, exploration engineering discipline and engineering geology discipline are merged into geological engineering specialty, which is a national key discipline, with doctoral programs and postdoctoral research stations in geological engineering, the only national key laboratory in the field of geological disasters-the State Key Laboratory of Geological Disaster Prevention and Geological Environmental Protection, and the National Teaching Demonstration Center of Geological Engineering. This discipline is the only one in China that has entered the national outstanding engineer training program from undergraduate to doctoral stage.
In addition, it mainly talks about the position of geotechnical drilling and excavation engineering in similar disciplines in China. Only five universities in China offer this major: China Geo University (Wuhan), China Geo University (Beijing), Jilin University (Changchun College), Chengdu University of Technology (Chengdu College) and Central South University (Central South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy), with no more than 200 graduates each year. So employment is not a problem. The employment situation in recent two years is even better than engineering geology. It's just that this major spends more time in the wild and is not suitable for girls.
