1985 In May, Hubei University for the Aged was established with the approval of Hubei Provincial Committee. Hubei University for the Aged is an old-age education institution that provides continuing education for retired veteran comrades in provincial organs. The aim of the school is "to increase knowledge, enrich life, cultivate sentiment, promote health and serve the society".

On 2011May 10, Hubei University for the Aged laid the foundation stone in Wuchang. Li Hongzhong, Secretary of Hubei Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress, Wang Guosheng, Deputy Secretary of Hubei Provincial Party Committee and Governor, Mr. Li, Standing Committee of Hubei Provincial Party Committee and Executive Vice Governor, and Hou Changan, Standing Committee of Hubei Provincial Party Committee and Minister of Organization Department, attended the groundbreaking ceremony and cut the ribbon.

Hubei University for the Aged is located east of Donghu Road in Wuchang and south of Hubei Provincial Museum. The project covers an area of 40 mu with a building area of 35,500 square meters. The estimated investment is about 265.438 billion yuan. It has three functions: study, activity and service. The main project is planned to be completed in one year. According to the functional design, the above-ground buildings are mainly equipped with lecture halls, classrooms, rehearsal halls, swimming pools, gymnasiums, various ball rooms and reception lounges. Underground buildings are mainly equipped with computer rooms and parking lots. Auxiliary outdoor works include tennis courts, gateball courts and road greening.
