Campus characteristics
Most buildings in Xianlin Campus of Nanjing University are angular, square and uniform from a distance, and independent internal courtyards form their own independent ecosystems. The colors are mainly gray, including dark gray, light gray, red and white, all of which are taken from the traditional colors of Gulou Campus. For more than 100 years, NTU's campus buildings have never pursued aggressive momentum, novel and peculiar appearance or bright and colorful colors.
Zhang Sheng, deputy director of the Chinese Department of Tongji University, said in the article "Harvard Red, Nantah Gray" that the gray tone of Nantah is "quiet and serene" and "there is a classical beauty that is unmoved by the secular", and summarized the style revealed by the architecture as "sincere, modest, low-key and realistic, but square and powerful".
