The advent of large-scale medical imaging equipment in the 1970s brought revolutionary changes to clinical and basic medicine. At the same time, the embryonic form of a new discipline-"medical imaging and image analysis" quietly came into being. By the 1980s, the research on this subject reached its climax, and the corresponding internationally renowned academic journals were published one after another. Aware of the great potential of this new discipline, Professor Chen took the lead in the research of medical imaging and image analysis in China, and set up a research center in the former First Military Medical University 1987 to carry out comprehensive cross-cutting research of information science and life science, which is still a well-known specialized research institution in China.

Professor Chen has been engaged in scientific research and personnel training for more than 20 years. Focusing on the theme of "medical imaging and image analysis", he has successively proposed an adaptive parameter correction method based on prior and a two-stage search optimization strategy, which has become an important innovation in optimization theory. The idea of "fuzzy random modeling" for medical image reconstruction and image analysis is put forward. For the first time, the randomness of information generation is linked with the fuzziness of visual evaluation, and a new concept of generalized fuzzy set and its transformation relationship with fuzzy set are put forward. Different fuzzy distribution design models are proposed for different imaging or analysis problems.

Professor Chen not only attaches importance to basic theoretical research, but also attaches great importance to solving practical problems. In applied research, he has a very deep understanding of medical imaging, and has his own unique views and theories on imaging technologies such as magnetic resonance, PET and CT. Related technologies have been patented or have reached cooperation with relevant domestic enterprises. His other research has been put into practice. He guided the completion of a large PACS software that meets the workflow of domestic hospitals, and embedded its related innovations in theoretical research into the PACS system to form fPAX, which enabled it to realize clinical digital quantitative diagnosis and also had powerful image analysis functions. At present, his achievements have been installed in more than 20 large and medium-sized hospitals across the country.

For more than 20 years, Professor Chen has established a new discipline of "Medical Imaging and Image Analysis" in China, which has gone through the psychological process of comprehensive cross-development of science, engineering and medicine from scratch. Now, as the chairman of the National Medical Imaging Professional Committee and a senior member of IEEE, he actively leads academic exchanges at home and abroad, which has won China a high international academic status and respect in the field of medical imaging science and image analysis. The purpose of radiotherapy is to improve the local control rate of treatment by increasing the dose of the target area and/or reducing the radiation damage of normal tissues around the target area, so as to further improve the survival rate and/or improve the quality of life. Tumor radiation physics is an interdisciplinary subject of physics and medicine, which applies the principles and methods of physics to tumor radiotherapy to solve clinical problems such as tumor irradiation dose, tumor location and tracking, quality assurance of radiotherapy equipment and treatment scheme design.

In the past 10 years, X- knife, three-dimensional conformal and intensity modulated radiotherapy systems have been developed successively. At present, it mainly develops key technologies and equipment such as dose calculation based on MC, image-guided radiotherapy, four-dimensional radiotherapy, automatic target tracking and adaptive radiotherapy.
