This is the first time that the life science discipline of South University of Science and Technology has entered the top of the world university discipline ranking 150. It is reported that 972 universities from all over the world entered the list of life science disciplines this year, and 58 universities in Chinese mainland were on the list.

The world university discipline ranking covers 1 1 discipline field, and the discipline ranking adopts the same data set and research methods as the world university ranking. The ranking index includes five dimensions: citation, industry income, international perspective, research and teaching. Among them, the citation of life science papers ranks 1 in China, and International Outlook ranks second in China.
South University of Life Sciences of China was formally established in August 2020. The first chairman was Academician Zhang Mingjie, a structural biologist and neurobiologist. Facing the frontier of life science and the great needs of human health, the Academy of Life Sciences will carry out innovative research around the core task of cultivating top-notch innovative life science talents to create a cradle for training life scientists. The Institute of Health Sciences aims to create a high-level college with international influence, takes scientific research and innovative talent training as the leading factor, takes discipline construction as the main line, builds a high-quality teacher team, and strives to achieve rapid development in scientific research achievements, talent training, team building and industrialization of science and technology.
On the basis of the original biology department, the Academy of Biological Sciences plans to build no less than five departments, including: Biology Department, Basic Immunology and Microbiology Department, Systems Biology Department, Chemical Biology Department and Neurobiology Department. Develop the College of Life Sciences in a brand-new mode, introduce the characteristics of modern life sciences, carry out interdisciplinary research on the basis of building the direction of traditional biology, integrate traditional life sciences into interdisciplinary research departments or centers, promote the development and application of new technologies, and meet the characteristics of quantitative, big data, multi-dimensional and multi-scale life sciences. Make full use of the opportunity of the new construction of South University of China College of Life Sciences, deeply combine the traditional construction and modern development characteristics of life sciences, build a distinctive discipline system and formulate a forward-looking discipline construction plan, which can not only develop rapidly in the short term, but also maintain sufficient vitality in the long term, and quickly rank among the world-class life sciences colleges.
