North University for Nationalities, directly under the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, is the only subordinate comprehensive university in China.

The school is located in Xixia District, Yinchuan City, the capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Established in 1984. Its predecessor was Northwest Second University for Nationalities. In 2004, the State Ethnic Affairs Commission signed an agreement with Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. In 2007, he was awarded the excellent evaluation of undergraduate teaching level by the Ministry of Education. In May 2008, it was renamed North University for Nationalities with the approval of the Ministry of Education.
