1925, Liu Piyun joined the China * * * Production Youth League, and joined the China * * * Producers Party in July of the same year. During the first revolutionary civil war, he served as secretary of the League branch of Shanghai Southern University, secretary of the League branch of Shanghai University, member of the Jiangsu and Zhejiang Youth League Committee, secretary of the Party Committee of the Shanghai Student Union, member of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress, chairman of the Eighth National Student Union, and instructor of the Central Peasant Movement Workshop. He took an active part in the May 30th Movement and the struggle against Wang Ching-wei's rebellious revolution, and participated in organizing the general strike in Wuhan.

After1927 "March 31tragedy", the main leading comrades of Sichuan Provincial Committee were killed. Liu Piyun, Lev and other comrades went to Chongqing to establish a temporary provincial committee of Sichuan Province, restore the party organization and continue to carry out the party's work. He has served as Minister of Propaganda Department of Sichuan Provisional Provincial Committee, Secretary of Sichuan Special Committee, Standing Committee of Sichuan Provincial Committee, Minister of Propaganda Department, and representative of the Sixth National Congress of China.

1935, Liu Piyun went to Japan to study. 1936 After returning to China, he took an active part in anti-Japanese and national salvation activities. 1940 arrive in Yan 'an in May. During War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation, Liu Piyun successively served as director of education of Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Administrative College, director of education of Yan 'an University and president of the Academy of Social Sciences, acting as vice president of Yan 'an University, secretary-general of Harbin Special Municipal Government and secretary-general of the Ministry of Communications of Northeast People's Government.

After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), Liu Piyun successively served as Deputy Director of the Southern Sichuan Administrative Office and Propaganda Minister of the Southern Sichuan Party Committee, Vice President of the Southern Sichuan People's Revolutionary University, Director of the Teaching Guidance Department of the Central Ministry of Education, Secretary and Vice President of the Party Committee of Tianjin Nankai University, Deputy Governor of Yunnan Province and Director of the Provincial Cultural and Educational Office, Standing Committee of Yunnan Provincial Committee, Director of the Teaching Guidance Department of the Central Ministry of Education, Secretary and President of the Party Committee of Yunnan University, Vice Chairman of the Fourth Committee of CPPCC Yunnan Province, Member of the Fifth Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Member of the Yunnan Provincial Political Consultative Conference.
