The school originated from Harbin Institute of Technology and was founded in 1920. 1958, Harbin Institute of Technology moved heavy machinery and related majors to Fulaerji District, Qiqihar City, an important industrial town, and established Fulaerji Branch of Harbin Institute of Technology, which was originally named Fulaerji Heavy Machinery College of Harbin Institute of Technology and later renamed Fulaerji Heavy Machinery College of Harbin Institute of Technology.
The school covers an area of 4000 mu, with a building area of 654.38+0.25 million square meters. At present, there are 40,000 students in general higher education. There are 3,200 faculty members, including 2,200 full-time teachers, including 568 professors and 678 associate professors. Teachers include 378 doctoral supervisors. There are 3 academicians of China Academy of Sciences, members of the State Council Discipline Evaluation Group 1, 6 selected personnel of the National "Ten Thousand Talents Program", and distinguished professor, chair professor of "Changjiang Scholar Award Program".
