Wuhan Conservatory of Music, located in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, is one of the nine independent conservatories in China, the only independent higher music institution in Central China, a master's degree awarding unit, and the first batch of MFA professional degree education pilot units in China.
Wuhan Conservatory of Music is the only independent music school in Central China. From 65438 to 0953, Zhongnan Conservatory of Music, established by the Music Department of Zhongnan College of Literature and Art, South China People's College of Literature and Art and Guangxi Provincial College of Art, was the starting point of Wuhan Conservatory of Music. Its predecessors were Music Department of Wuchang Art College (1930), Hunan Conservatory of Music (1947), Guangxi Art College (1946), Guangdong Art College (1938) and Guangzhou Art College (1. 1985 was renamed Wuhan Conservatory of Music.
The school takes moral education as its fundamental task, takes building a high-level conservatory of music that people are satisfied with as its construction goal, implements the discipline construction policy of trinity of artistic performance, artistic creation and theoretical research, adheres to the school motto of "moral education, self-improvement, respect for literature and beauty", and cultivates high-quality and diversified music and dance professionals and top-notch innovative talents with all-round development in morality, intelligence, physique, beauty and labor.
The school is one of the first professional music colleges in China to award master's degrees, with three master's degree authorization points: music and dance, law (Marxist theory and ideological and political education) and master of arts (music and dance). At present, there are teaching units such as Composition Department, Music Department, Chinese Department, Piano Department, Orchestral Department, Vocal Department, Dance Department, Music Education Institute, Performing Arts Institute, graduate department, Marxism Institute, Basic Courses Department, Continuing Education Institute (including adult undergraduate education), affiliated middle schools and affiliated primary schools. There are music affiliated elementary schools, music affiliated middle schools, undergraduate, master students and doctoral students.
The National Music Performance Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center is one of the two national music experimental teaching demonstration centers in China. Among the seven undergraduate majors in the school, music performance, musicology and recording arts are national majors, music performance, musicology, recording arts, composition and composition technology theory are national first-class undergraduate majors, and dance performance and choreography are provincial first-class undergraduate majors. The school is the first batch of provincial key discipline construction units in colleges and universities in Hubei Province. It has a series of professional construction and artistic practice platforms, such as the Yangtze River Traditional Music Culture Research Center, Hubei Music Creation Collaborative Innovation Center, Oriental Symphony Orchestra, Oriental Chinese Orchestra, China Chime Orchestra, Oriental Chorus and Oriental Dance Troupe, and is a key research base of humanities and social sciences in colleges and universities in Hubei Province. Huangzhong is one of the nine core periodicals of Chinese music in China. The school adheres to the fundamental task of moral education, innovates the talent training mechanism, improves the quality of talent training, promotes cultural inheritance and innovation, and serves the economic, social and cultural development of the country and Hubei.
