The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is the only Hong Kong institution that participated in the Chang 'e-4 mission. It developed a "camera pointing system" to land on the moon with Chang 'e-4 and created a terrain model for its candidate landing zone.

The team led by Professor Rong Qiliang (Precision Engineering), deputy director of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the "camera pointing system" developed by the China Academy of Space Technology for Chang 'e IV can help to take pictures of the moon and help the control center to direct the activities of the lunar rover.
