1993 Huazhong Normal University established the Department of Sociology and Administration, and Professor Liu Zuyun was the vice president and head of the Department of Sociology and Administration of the School of Management. With the approval of the State Education Commission, the sociology undergraduate program was established, and the undergraduate students majoring in sociology began to be recruited in China on 1994. 1At the beginning of 997, the Department of Sociology of Huazhong Normal University was established independently, with Professor Liu Zuyun as the dean and Professor Xia as the deputy director. At the end of 200 1, the branch committee directly under the Department of Sociology of Huazhong Normal University was established, with Xia as the branch secretary and Wan Rende as the director of the Department of Sociology.

On June 65438+1October1day, 2008, Huazhong Normal University formally established the School of Social Studies, which consists of the Department of Sociology and the Department of Social Work. Population Research Institute, Hubei Urban Community Research Center, Social Theory Research Center, Social Policy Research Center, Social Worker Vocational Qualification Training Center, Social Investigation Research Center, Social Risk and Social Management Research Center, Social Ideological and Cultural Research Center, etc. Hubei Social Society and Central South Juvenile Delinquency Research Center are all affiliated to our hospital. With the care and strong support of the school, the School of Social Sciences was awarded a master's degree in sociology on 1998. In 2003, the major of social work was set up to recruit students. In the same year, he was awarded a doctorate in sociology. In 2004, the Institute of Population Studies was established, and in 2005, it obtained a master's degree in demography. 200 1 Professor Zheng Hangsheng, a famous sociologist, president of China Academy of Social Sciences and former vice president of China Renmin University, was employed as a distinguished tenured professor in our college.

Since 1993 was established, the School of Social Studies of Huazhong Normal University has formed a team of teachers with strong overall academic strength, reasonable structure, neatness, ability, youth, strength and unity through the construction and development of 15. There are more than 20 full-time teachers in the college, including 9 from famous universities or research institutes such as Peking University, Nankai University and China Academy of Social Sciences. 8 professors and 7 associate professors; Among the in-service teachers, 16 has a doctoral degree, accounting for 73% of the in-service teachers, and the remaining 27% of the teachers are all doctoral students; In-service teachers are in their prime of life, among which 13 is 35-45 years old, accounting for 65%.

The School of Social Sciences has adopted an open mode of running schools, hired a group of well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad as part-time professors, established stable cooperative education and academic exchange relations with sociology and social work departments of relevant universities in Japan, the United States and Hong Kong, and established more than ten teaching practice bases of sociology and social work in various cities in Hubei Province.

According to the goal of building a comprehensive research university, our college has focused on the research of the National Social Science Fund, the major bidding project of philosophy and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, the Social Science Fund of Hubei Province, the Civil Affairs Department of Hubei Province, and the Population and Family Planning Commission of Hubei Province. Associate Professor Wan Rende, Vice President, with the strong support of school leaders and various functional departments and the joint efforts of all faculty members, the discipline construction of Sociology Department has achieved leap-forward development since its establishment more than ten years ago. Especially in 2003, by applying for doctoral degree, we integrated the relevant forces of the school and formed a team of young subject teachers with reasonable structure, high academic level and strong professionalism. During the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period, our department will further strengthen discipline construction and specialty construction. The following plans are formulated:

First, the unit development goals

The Department of Sociology plans to set up a school of sociology in 2006. There are 2 1 staff, including 7 teachers. During the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, our department will further increase the efforts to introduce high-level talents, so that the total number of teachers will reach 35 by the end of the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan", including 29 full-time and part-time teachers, 4 administrators, and 2 counselors and teaching assistants.

The specific mechanism is set as 2 series 1 institute and 5 centers.

(1) Sociology Department: enrolling undergraduates majoring in sociology and enrolling postgraduates and doctoral students majoring in sociology;

(2) Department of Social Work: recruiting undergraduates majoring in social work;

(3) Population Research Institute: Recruit postgraduate students in demography, and plan to apply for the authorization point of doctoral degree in demography.

Five centers: Hubei Urban Community Research Center, Social Welfare Research Center, Corporate Culture Research Center, Sociological Theory Research Center, Juvenile Crime Prevention and Control Research Center, etc.

Operational mechanism of research institutions:

The institute is mainly for graduate students and scientific research, and it is also an undergraduate course, which is integrated with the two departments in staffing and daily management;

The research center breaks the original closed and fixed establishment, takes the research direction as the basic platform, takes the research topic as the leader, and is flexibly set up.

Second, the discipline development goals

Our department has two undergraduate majors (sociology and social work), two master majors (sociology and demography) and one doctoral major (sociology).

Overall development goal: after the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, accelerate the improvement of scientific research level, make our department a leading discipline with its own characteristics in some research fields, and become a new growth point for the development of applied disciplines in our school.

Specific objectives: to successfully apply for a master's degree in sociology and a doctorate in demography within two years; In five years, we will strive to build sociology in our school into a first-class doctoral program. By 20 10, our department will become a unit with the right to award doctoral and master's degrees in sociology.

In terms of discipline construction, our department has not only formed a team of teachers with reasonable age structure and academic background structure, high academic level and strong professionalism, but also formed several distinctive research directions. The research direction of urban sociology already has a certain strength, and the research of crime sociology, cultural sociology, economic sociology and population sociology will be strengthened in the next few years, making it a new growth point of this discipline. In addition, the rural sociology research in China Rural Research Center of our school, the social psychology research in the School of Psychology and the folk literature research in the College of Literature will form a strong foundation for the overall development of the discipline and lay a solid foundation for the application for doctoral degree in the first-level discipline.

Mainly study the development planning of characteristic direction:

(1) Urban Sociology: Relying on Hubei Urban Community Research Center, a key research base in Hubei Province, it focuses on community construction, community welfare, community correction and migrant workers. This research is supported and cooperated by China Rural Research Center, Hubei Urban Community Construction Research Center, Hubei Provincial Civil Affairs Department and Labor and Social Security Department.

(2) Sociology of population: Based on the Institute of Population Studies, we will carry out research on population mobility management, poverty relief, social support for AIDS orphans, and relief for vulnerable groups. This research will be carried out in cooperation with population and family planning commission and Hubei Population Society.

(3) Cultural sociology: corporate culture research, Wuhan traditional culture development, Wuhan cultural market management and campus culture construction, and mutual support and cooperation with Hubei Academy of Social Sciences, Wuhan Academy of Social Sciences, Hubei Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Wuhan Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Hongshan District Committee and Government, WISCO and Tao Hong K Group.

(4) Sociology of Crime: Based on Central South Juvenile Delinquency Research Center, Hongshan Prison, Wuhan Juvenile Delinquency Correctional Institute, Wuhan Juvenile Rights Protection Center and other units are investigation and cooperation research bases, focusing on social norms and social anomie, juvenile delinquency prediction and control, and juvenile rights protection. The research will be carried out in horizontal cooperation with China Juvenile Delinquency Research Association, Central South Juvenile Delinquency Research Center (currently affiliated to our Ministry), Wuhan Youth League and Wuhan Youth Rights Protection Center of Hubei Province, Hubei Provincial Department of Justice, Public Security Department and other government functional departments.

Advantages are: young teachers; High level of education; Several research directions have strong reality and development prospects; Urban sociology, population sociology and other disciplines have had a certain influence in academic circles.

The shortcomings are: the social influence of academic backbone still needs to be further expanded; The research direction of academic team needs to be further condensed to form a clearer main attack direction; The data conditions of the study need to be strengthened.

Strengthen discipline construction and achieve extraordinary development with the help of external forces;

(1) Squeeze out a quota from the establishment number approved by our unit, and invite external experts and professors to give lectures in our department in turn (or offer academic frontier lectures for graduate students and undergraduates, or guide graduate students to declare topics and conduct research on topics).

(2) Continue to actively carry out academic exchange activities by means of "please come in and go out", invite famous scholars at home and abroad to give lectures in our department, and send teachers to participate in relevant academic seminars for academic exchange.

(3) Further increase cooperation with China Rural Research Center (including postgraduate teaching and research projects) and establish a comprehensive cooperation mechanism.

(4) As a member of Hubei Urban Community Research Center, we should further explore the research field and form our own research characteristics and direction.

(5) Do a good job in professional social worker qualification training.

Third, personnel training.

1. Our department has two undergraduate majors, sociology and social work, among which social work is a newly-built major that started enrolling students in 2003. During the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, we will further strengthen the professional brand awareness based on the principle of high standards and strict requirements, especially to strengthen the school-running strength and improve the school-running level of new majors. While continuously improving the quality of personnel training, we will gradually expand the enrollment scale, so that the enrollment of each major will reach about 70.

2. Because sociology and social work are highly practical subjects, the construction of practice bases and laboratories is the basic condition for professional development. Our department has listed six practice bases for construction. In the future, we will further strengthen cooperation with relevant government departments and institutions, improve the construction level of practice bases, and build 2-3 more practice bases as needed to effectively meet the needs of professional practice and related research. In terms of laboratory construction, we will further create conditions and strive to establish social work laboratories and social investigation statistical analysis laboratories as soon as possible to meet the urgent needs of teaching and related research work.

3. Strengthen the construction of courses and teaching materials. In view of the need for the school to enter the "2 1 1 project" key construction sequence and build a comprehensive research-oriented university, we should actively explore and popularize research-oriented teaching and promote the reform of teaching methods, means and teaching contents. In accordance with the standards and requirements of "standardized courses, professional main courses and excellent courses", we will strengthen curriculum construction and promote the improvement of teaching quality of various courses. On the basis of standardized courses, it is planned to build 8- 10 school-level major courses and 1-2 provincial-level quality courses, and actively promote the construction of national-level quality courses. Improve the pertinence of multimedia technology in classroom teaching and further improve the production level of CAI courseware. Strengthen the construction of teaching materials and launch 1-2 excellent teaching materials every year. Strengthen the management in the process of selecting and ordering teaching materials, and further improve the quality of selecting teaching materials.

4. Further standardize teaching management. According to the working idea of "standardization first, motivation first", we should strengthen the whole process management of teaching activities, strengthen the construction of teaching and research section and teaching management team, further improve and implement the quality standards and relevant rules and regulations of each teaching main link, strengthen the evaluation and management of daily teaching work, and strive to improve teaching quality and management efficiency.

Fourth, scientific research.

With the continuous development of scientific research in our department, a strong scientific research team has been gradually established. During the 11th Five-Year Plan period, we will further increase investment in human and material resources:

1. Self-raised funds of 30,000 yuan are invested in scientific research every year. Make good use of the 50,000 yuan of doctoral discipline construction funds invested by the school and strive for the support of Jingui Plan; At the same time, strive for vertical projects 1 and horizontal funds 1.5-0.2 million every year;

2. Every teacher publishes 1.5 CSSCI papers every year, and the total number of papers reached 40 at the end of the 11th Five-Year Plan. Two books are published every year, 1 textbook.

3. Actively carry out academic exchanges with foreign countries and support teachers to participate in a national academic seminar every year; Hold 1 national academic seminar every two years, invite experts outside the school to give lectures 4-5 times a year, and all professors in the department give lectures 1-2 times.

Fourth, the construction of teaching staff.

1. Continue to do a good job in training and improving existing teachers, encourage young and middle-aged teachers to improve their academic qualifications, and make the number of teachers with doctoral degrees reach more than 70% by the end of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan. Do a good job in training academic leaders to become experts with certain influence and pioneering spirit in academic circles at home and abroad. Do a good job in the construction and training of academic echelon, make the age structure, academic background structure and academic marginal structure of teachers more reasonable, and build an academic team with strong overall scientific research strength, strong fighting capacity and hardship.

2. Continue to increase the introduction of high-level talents. During the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, at least 1 doctor will be introduced every year to make the academic structure and age structure more reasonable.

3. Strengthen the teaching level and improve the ability of scientific research and innovation: formulate and implement measures and rewards and punishments to encourage teachers to actively participate in teaching and scientific research, and encourage teachers to actively declare scientific research projects and horizontal cooperation projects at different levels around the key areas of research, so as to strive for more results, produce excellent results and publish weighty academic monographs.
