In recent years, conventional local wars have occurred from time to time, and conventional tactical missiles have been used in many wars, such as the Arab-Israeli war, the Afghanistan war, the Iran-Iraq war and the Gulf war. Especially in the Iran-Iraq War and the Gulf War, the use of conventional tactical missiles played an inestimable role in the war. Therefore, in recent years, all countries regard the development of conventional tactical missiles as an important project in the future weapons development. For example, in addition to the dual-purpose submunition warhead of 950 anti-personnel bullet, the United States is also developing various anti-armor warheads and other warheads for army tactical missiles.
Russia has also prepared a variety of conventional warheads for the improved SS-2 1 Scarab and the new Scud missile. In addition, India, Pakistan, Israel, Iran and many other countries have also developed and equipped conventional tactical ballistic missiles.
Increase the scope
Increasing the range and improving the missile's ability to attack deep targets is another feature of developing tactical missiles in recent years. Increasing the range of surface-to-surface tactical missiles can not only ensure that missiles suppress and destroy important targets beyond the range of field artillery, but also have an inestimable deterrent effect strategically. For example, in recent years, India and Pakistan have been competing to increase the range of their Prithvi and Khatf surface-to-surface tactical missiles in order to achieve deterrence and mutual restraint.
In addition, the "Army Tactical Missile System" equipped by the United States in 1990s has a range of 150km, which is 78km higher than the original "Spear" conventional tactical missile. However, after the actual combat test of the Gulf War, the United States believes that its range still cannot meet the needs of modern warfare, and will further improve the "Army Tactical Missile" with the first-class warhead. It is said that the improved missile has twice the original range. In addition, the range of the newly equipped French tactical missile "Hadders" is four times higher than that of the original equipped "Prudon" missile.
Strengthen basic types and serialize.
The so-called basic type is the basic type of missile series, and only when the foundation is good can there be development potential. Strengthening the basic model is to demonstrate and select the overall performance of the missile at the initial stage of development. Only missiles with good performance can effectively equip all kinds of warheads. Both the United States and Russia attach great importance to the comprehensive performance of basic missiles when developing surface-to-surface tactical missiles. They adopt more mature technology, and on the basis of basic missiles with good performance, they either increase the range or match different warheads to make it a missile series. For example, US Army tactical missiles developed ATACMS- 1 A, ATACMS-2, ATACMS-2A and ship-launched Army tactical missiles based on ATACMS-1,while Russia developed improved and latest types based on SS-2 1 Scarab ground tactical missiles.
