The history of the school can be traced back to the Textile Printing and Dyeing Institute founded by industrialist Zhang Jian in 19 12. Founded in 195 1, it was named East China Institute of Textile Technology. 1960, identified as a national key university by the Ministry of Education. 198 1 year, becoming one of the first universities in China with the right to award doctoral, master's and bachelor's degrees. 1985, renamed China Textile University. 1998 was identified as a key institution of higher learning under the national "2 1 1 project". 1999, renamed Donghua University. In 20 17, it was listed as a national "double-first-class" construction university.
The school is located in Shanghai, China, with Songjiang Campus, Yan 'an Road Campus and Xinhua Road Campus, covering an area of nearly 2,000 mu, with a total construction area of over 830,000 square meters. The school is "Shanghai Garden Unit" and "Shanghai Civilized Campus". Songjiang Campus is a national water conservancy scenic spot.
