1. Why didn't Three Gorges University comment on 2 1 1?
Project 2 1 1 is a university and discipline construction project initiated by China to realize "rejuvenating the country through science and education", and 1 12 universities have been selected successively. These schools are either among the best in comprehensive strength or have outstanding advantages in a certain subject. The Three Gorges University is a very good university, but it does not meet the criteria of being selected as a 2 1 1 university, and there is still much room for improvement in discipline construction. According to the results of the fourth round of national discipline evaluation, there are only three B disciplines (electrical engineering, civil engineering and hydraulic engineering) and seven C disciplines.
You may say that the discipline development of Three Gorges University is much stronger than that of a few recognized universities such as Yanbian University and Qinghai University. But the choice of 2 1 1 universities will also be combined with the local economic development level. Yanbian University and Qinghai University are located in remote areas, and the development of higher education requires more financial support from the state. Three Gorges University is located in Hubei Province, with a relatively high overall economic level. The province has been able to provide some financial support for the development of the school, without the need for additional "care" from the state. Moreover, many powerful universities in Hubei Province, such as Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Wuhan University of Technology, have been selected for the 2 1 1 project, and Three Gorges University has no chance to be selected.
In my opinion, whether the Three Gorges University is selected as a 2 1 1 university or not will not hinder the development of the university to an excellent undergraduate university. According to the soft science ranking of 202 1 China University, Three Gorges University is located in 167, ranking very high. The school has always been affiliated to the Ministry of Water Resources and Electric Power and the State Power Company, and has obvious advantages in water conservancy engineering and electrical engineering. At present, the school offers 78 undergraduate majors, of which 16 was selected as a national first-class undergraduate major in the "Two Million Plan" of the Ministry of Education, and 2 1 was a provincial first-class undergraduate major. According to the employment quality report of 20 19 graduates of Three Gorges University, the year-end employment rate of undergraduate graduates is 95.29%, of which 35.77% are contracted by state-owned enterprises (mainly central enterprises). State Grid and China Power Construction Group are the main employment channels for undergraduates. 2019,229 undergraduates joined the state grid, and 169 joined China construction group.
