Southwest Jiaotong University, located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC). It was jointly established by the Ministry of Education, China Railway Corporation, Sichuan Province and Chengdu. It ranks among the first batch of "double first-class" universities in China, "2 1 1 Project" and "Characteristic" 988.
This school has been selected into "20 1 1 plan", "kloc-0/1plan", "excellent engineer education and training plan", "national innovative experiment plan for college students", "national postgraduate project for building high-level universities" and "new engineering research and practice project". As of September, 2022, the school has four campuses: Jiuli, Xipu, Emei and Chengdu East (International), covering an area of more than 5,000 mu. At present, there are 27 colleges (institutes and centers), with 18 authorized points for first-class disciplines, 3 authorized categories for doctoral degrees, 4 authorized points for master's degrees for first-class disciplines,1postdoctoral research stations, and more than 2,700 full-time teachers.
The predecessor of Southwest Jiaotong University can be traced back to Shanhaiguan Beiyang Railway Official School founded by 1896. After several years of separation and integration, it has gone through the school-running periods of Tangshan Railway School, Shanhaiguan Inner and Outer Road and Mine School, Tangshan Railway School of Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, Tangshan College of Jiaotong University, Tangshan Jiaotong University, Tangshan Jiaotong University and the Second Jiaotong University.
1952, the department was renamed Tangshan Railway Institute after adjustment. 1964 The school moved to Emei, and 1972 was named Southwest Jiaotong University. 1989 The main body of the school moved to Chengdu. By 2022, Southwest Jiaotong University will rank 52nd in China University of Soft Science in 2022; In 2022, ABC China University ranked 45th.
