It is a university jointly established by the Civil Aviation Administration, Tianjin and the Ministry of Education. It is a "double-class" university in Tianjin and a high-level university with characteristics. The school has two campuses in Tianjin Dongli and Ninghe, and three main flight training bases in Chaoyang, Liaoning, Hulunbeier, Inner Mongolia and Shihezi, Xinjiang. The campus covers an area of 2,969 mu with a building area of 874,000 square meters. It is planned to build a civil aviation science and technology innovation base near Beijing Daxing International Airport. There are more than 29,000 full-time students, including 3,300 graduate students and 200 international students. There are 16 colleges (branches), as well as graduate schools and scientific and technological innovation research institutes.
