School of Electrical and Information Engineering is a secondary college under the university, which generally includes electrical engineering, control science and engineering, electronic science and technology and other disciplines.

School of Electrical and Information Engineering of Hunan University, which originated from the Department of Electrical Engineering of Hunan Institute of Technology, was established in 192 1. 1923, electrical engineering department changed to electrical engineering department; 1953, the Department of Electrical Engineering was transferred to Huazhong University of Science and Technology (now Huazhong University of Science and Technology); 1958 resumed running our school; 1980 the department of electrical engineering and the department of electronic engineering were merged into the department of electrical engineering; School of Electrical and Information Engineering was established in 1999.

The School of Electrical and Information Engineering of Hunan University has a high-level talent team headed by Academician Luo An and Academician Wang Yaonan. There are three first-class doctoral programs, nine second-class doctoral programs, two post-doctoral research stations, 13 master programs, and 15 professional master programs. It has two national key disciplines and three key disciplines in Hunan Province. In February, 2022, the electrical engineering discipline of Hunan University was selected as the second round of "double first-class" disciplines (there are only 8 universities in China).
