The predecessor of this department can be traced back to the history school established by Shi Jing University Hall in the autumn of 1899, and it is the earliest history education department established in modern China. 1900 Shi Jing university hall was destroyed by Eight-Nation Alliance in summer. At the end of 1902, the government of China planned to establish a history project in the Charter for the Restoration of Shi Jing University Hall, and 1903 was changed to China history project and world history project. The following summer, Shi Jing University Hall began to carry out history education in preparatory schools and normal universities. 19 10 In March, the Department of China History of Shi Jing University (equivalent to a four-year undergraduate program) began enrolling students.

After the Revolution of 1911, Shi Jing University Hall 19 12 was changed to National Peking University in May. In the New Culture Movement, Peking University's history education absorbed new scientific theories, methods and knowledge from the modern world in many ways, and made efforts to enable students to acquire extensive basic knowledge, lay a solid academic foundation and practice profound professional abilities. After the May 4th Movement, in August of 19 19, the school affairs committee was renamed China History Department according to the new system.

Some teachers and students moved with the school, and jointly established the Department of History and Sociology of National Southwest Associated University with relevant departments of Tsinghua University and Nankai University. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Peking University History Department recovered the north with the school on 1946.

The department has a complete curriculum, which is divided into undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and can be awarded bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. Since 1994, it has been listed as a national talent training and scientific research base for basic disciplines of liberal arts. Peking University liberal arts multimedia computer laboratory was established in this department. The department library has more than 65,438+10,000 books, and the school library has nearly one million books on history, among which there are many rare books.

The department recruits 50 undergraduates, 40 postgraduates and 30 doctoral students at home and abroad every year, and accepts more than 20 advanced students 10, more than 20 senior teachers and visiting scholars 10.
